Last year I hit something in the water. Everything seemed OK , boat was just a little sluggish. Did not go out much this year, but had no problems when we did. Last week when I wanted to take my boat out the water, the weeds were very thick, but I managed to power through them. Once in clear water, the boat would not go- seemed like the prop was slipping(not turning). When I gave gas, the motor revved fine but I went nowhere. I had to Idle back in. Any ideas anyone... Im no mechanic but I know engines a little. The motor sounds and runs great. HELP!!!!

Is it possible you got weeds around your prop? That description will happen when you got weeds wrapped around your prop. If not, could be a spun prop.

did you spin the hub on the prop? possible when you hit something you damaged it, then the thick weeds finished it off? I am assuming you actually looked at the prop to make sure it is still there, all the blades are there and clear of fouling. Was there any vibrations after you hit something? When you say sluggish, that makes me thing there was in fact significant damage at that time.

The out-drive is volvo sx. The prop is still fine- I replaced it when I hit the log the log 2 years ago. I took it off to check if the rubber inner hub is still good... they are. When the boat would not go, the first thing I checked was to see if there was something around the prop. Again- all clear. What is a spun prop?

Ayuh,... When ya hit clear water, did you go to reverse to clear the weeds from the prop/ drive,..??

if not, it cleared itself as ya idled in...
Ya don't have a drive or prop issue, it was the weeds...

Could be the prop, could be the coupler. Does the boat move at slow speed but slip at higher rpm? If so, Try marking the prop hub and the prop, run it till it slips, then pull the prop and see if the marks are lined up.

I'll give it another try and see how things go. Good thing is no-one seems to think there is any internal damage to my outdrive.

Not at this point. Most people look at the more common reasons first before saying the drive is bad. and yes, there is the possibility the drive has problems, but eliminate the external things first before going into the drive.
