I was looking for belts and other information on my engine and drive and I found these three stickers on the valve cover.

MerCruiser Motor - B558251
MerCruiser Drive Unit - 08463807
MerCruiser Transom Assembly - 08573949

Do these seem pretty accurate for a 1987 Chaparral 198XL?

Engine model number is a 230 which is a 305 Chevy V8 1987 vintage. The drive is an Alpha I with a 1.50 gear ratio.

Have you checked these numbers against the actual numbers on the engine, transom, and drive? This will confirm if you've have equipment changes (if you are not the orig owner and dont have other equipment history)

Re: Engine, Drive and Transom Assembly Serial Numbers

I have not confirmed any of these numbers yet. I just bought the boat a few weeks ago and still learning everything! I read a post about asking questions the correct way and I want to make sure I am providing the best information possible so that I can get more great answers from the experts! The numbers on the outdrive are barely visible but I think I may be able to etch them with pencil and paper.
