Hey, the thing runs now! but....when I slowly open it up, the engine dies unless I throttle up fast. I can see fuel being pumped into the barrel, but it just doesnt seem like its enough.....any ideas

Not a surprise, you still have carb problems. Remember what I mentioned in the other thread about all those passages. Well, you still have one plugged up.

ok....well, aside from pulling it apart again, is there anything else that may be causing the problem? I can see fuel being introduced into the barrel when I open the throttle up.....could it be a float or an adjustment that might cure it?

Ayuh,...........

You might try Adjusting a different Carb onto your motor..........

Ayuh,..... I'm Sorry you don't particularly care for the answers,....
But,....
We're just abunch of Mechanics sitting at keyboards,.....

Not Magicians......

And,.....
Even though I've been searching for Years,........
I still haven't found an Adjustment for Fixing Junk Parts.........

You could try another Carb Kit,+ do it Right, by having the body boiled out,....
But,......
You'll still be looking at maybe 50/50 odds at Best.......
Or,......
You can go out,+ Find yourself another Carb,.... New, Used, Borrowed,.....Whatever.....
Your Choice.......

Based on the evidence presented by yourself in these threads,.....

Your Carb is Junk.......... The Low-speed circuit is Plugged...........

Yes, you should be able to adjust it and cure the problem. Start with the float level.
Raise the level 1/32 of an inch. Then make a test run. If it still does it, increase an additional 1/32. If after getting to where the carb floods over the problem still exists, go back to book specs and try down in 1/32" increments. If that still doesn't work, put the float level back to specs.
Then start fiddiling with the mixture and choke settings till you get the proper backfires, then put back to specs and try again.
If you still have a problem, junk the engine. Install the new motor and add your carb to it. If the problem still exists, start over from the beggining till it works the way you think it should.
Trust me, it's just an adjustment, nothing more. No matter what Bondo says.

Re: Engine dies just above idle...

Thank you Don for the advice....this motor worked fine for the five times i had it out and I know the old owner and she never had problems other than letting it sit tooooo long...i dont think it needs to be replaced. as for the carb, I am going to fiddle with it this week with the given advice and see what happens. I got the thing running at least and I think ill track down this fuel issue soon. I knew this may happen after buying a boat thats been sitting for a year and a half....but it was a really good deal, so i dont mind wrenchin on it for a bit!:)

curiosity.....is the low speed circuit associated with the accel pump check ball, and or the power valve in the bottom of the bowl.......??

Typically an off idle hesitation is caused by an inadequate pump shot via excellerator pump, dispersal nozzles, and yes the check ball within the pump cavity is a must.

Don, where do you find the manual on proper amount of back fires? We need it to make a sticky.

It's all in the manual of "Tell Them What they Want to Hear"
Has absolutely nothing to do with reallity, but he sure wanted to hear someone tell him that all the problem was an adjustment, so I told him. :D

Aahh, dealing with the intentionally deaf.

Don't know what type carb it is but usually that is as said a possible accelerator pump/flat spot. If the top of the carb comes off to get to the pump plunger? Clean it out and try flaring out the rubber plunger for a tighter fit. It's a temp. quick fix but if it works you'll know you need a rebuild or another carb.

OH Yeah! Boy, thats a breakdown waiting to happen. Take the advice of the people who have "been there and done that". Im sure of a few things 1- you most likely have crap in the tank. 2- that carb has crap in it you cant even get to in order to clean it out."jets/ports" 3- get an atisyphon valve. I don't know where you go boating but i hope it's landlocked. good luck boy.;)
