Hi an old rookie here, we bought a old boat with a 100 hp merc motor we had in in the water about a month ago. Motor ran good. Now we are trying to sell it and the motor won't start, it just clicks when I hit the starter. The trim won't raise or lower either, it didn't work when we took it out, no clue what to do. Tried swapping the batterie and no luck, I'm stumped anybody got any ideas?
Thanks in advanced

Sounds like an electrical problem in the battery/starter area. I would check both batteries too verify they are up-to-snuff. A VOM would give you a better read on battery voltage & condition. Also check both ends of each battery cable to assure they are clean and bright.

Finally, gently tap the starter motor, the solenoid, and the starter Bendix with a small hammer. Some times they lock up if they're not well lubricated. I'd use WD-40 to loosen them up. Could also be a bad solenoid - use jumper cables to bypass the solenoid and see if the starter spins up. If all else fails, call in a marine technician.

Lots of luck chasing these issues. Ain't boating fun!
