My 5.0 Mercruiser engine is just dusty, not greasy or anything. What can be purchased besides the stock stuff at the normal parts stores that would clean this up ?

I was not wanting to have to "wash it off", but know I probably will have to.

I don't want to get anything in the bilge pump that might damage it.

Suggestions ??

Thanx,

If you do not have compressed air......a leaf blower works wonders and is better for large areas like an engine compartment....wear safety glasses and a dust mask....

O.K., I just didn't want to use something in the way of a spray that might damage the bilge pump.

Thanx

Bilge pumps are fairly resilliant. Rinse it off with a gentle spray from the hose, or an air hose. Put a towel over the bilge pump or something if you're nervous about that. Check for debris in the pump intake and make sure it's not choked on a piece of a leaf or fishing line or anything.
