hi, well at least i've got something else to work on other than the drive now. let's see, boat listed below. here's the scene (story). engine performs good for the first 1/2 hour run. all rpms. then stop for 20 min. then run again for a half hour, then stop for 20 min. and then the next run the engine starts to act like it's chokeing (missing), especialy at high rpm's, though still noticable at low rpm's too. if i continued operation, rpms start to get lower, gets to the point where i only get about 3K at wot, and slow to get there too. at this point, something is not right, idle her on in to load her up. it's done this twice to me.
here's whats been done to it. new sea water pump, upper and lower housing, impeller, waterpocket cover. new t-stat, all new hoses, new manifold and riser, flapper was missing, replaced it. i have no water in engine oil or lower unit gear lub. speedi sleeved an oil seal wear groove on the lower drive shaft.
tune up, replaced cap, rotor, points, condeser, plugs, plug wires, fuel filter, cleaned strainer at carb. dwell is right 31*, timeing is right 6*BTDC set at about 600rpm. rereplaced fuel filer and recleaned carb strainer. also replaced fuel line, fuel pump to carb w/steel 1/4" brake line. removed 12' of fuel hose between twin fuel tanks and fuel pump. got it now with shortest possible run. t'd them to a mech. diverter. tilted boat back pretty far, let sit for a hour and siphoned off fuel from bottom of tank. gallon ea. side. did not see any water fuel seperation. and the new most disappointing news to me is the compression. 5 out of 6 cyls at 120-140, #1 at 90, three squirts of oil and increased to 105.
.
how do i interpert all this as related to my chokeing out problem. seems to happen after she's a bit heat soaked. next thing that comes to my mind is the fuel line running right by the t'stat and front of engine. maybe vaporizing?. oh, also, fuel pump pressure is at 3.5-4.0 psi. the problem seems to be after it gets good and hot. also temp is steady on the dash gage, in the green. slightly on the low side of middle. i do think i've cured my over heat problems. now onto a new one. any ideas other than 90 psi on #1? i hope.
oh, i got a degree or 2 of dwell variation. probaly a degree.
man i just keep trying and come up short......hum, might have to sell the ski to pay for boat parts.........
