I have a 98, 50hp johnson outboard When I go at full speed the engine bogs down and the boat will barely go. It seems to idle fine and does not die on me. I replaced the fuel filter, but it still does it. Any suggestions? I am 16 and this is my first boat

Do you have a tack? If it bogs down at exactly 2000 rpms the engine may be telling itself theres a cooling or oil problem (if you have a VRO unit that is). At least thats true on my Yamaha, I had the same problem and a lose quick connection to the block heat sensor was the source. Check these systems out and their sensors if so. Good luck.

I have yet to see some say to someone is your oil fuel mix ratio right since your a beginner always make sure your plugs could be fouled or the throttle cable is out of adjustment or your running on less cylinders than you have colis sparking? hope I helped

I just had the same problem on my marina 75 hp 1984.
It was the pump on the fuelhose. The litle ball inside was blocking when the hose was on the bottom of the boat. I lifted it and hang it on a hook, that worked.
Mikael
