Engine boggs down after running full out after few minutes

Have a '94 tigarshark ( Daycota).

Was given to me. didn't ask if it was ever flipped. It has lots of power when first started, after a while of running, the engine starts to slow down and labour. If I back off on the gas, and let it idle for a second, (sometimes it dies, but re-starts with no problems) it is fine again. I noticed that the thing floods easy with gas, so I am now clamping the fuel and oil lines overnight when not in use.

I noticed that the fuel cap indicator float is rusty, wonder if bits of rust are clogging the gas intake and when the engine is stopped, the lines clear. I changed the fuel and oil lines and filters.

If it was a carb problem, wouldn't it have a performance issue right away?

Thanks all

its fuel starvation see if they use internal filters like most other skies do they are clogged .also re direct your fuel line to the reserve side of the tank and eliminate the selector switch those get clogged also.

Thanks for the reply: there is no selector switch, and how do I re-direct the fuel line? I obtained the manual, and the diagrams do not show any filters, other then the ones in the lines. I did notice there are three lines comming out of the tank ( according to the diagrams, and there are filters on them also.

Does anyone know what these other lines are for? Perhaps I have to replace the filters on those lines also ( If I can find them - the manual does not talk about other filters)

you don't have a fuel switch to turn off the fuel or put it on reserve??? if you have michouni carbs they probably have little screens in them those get plugged up

Thanks Jeff...

It would appear that I will have to re-build the carb. at some point.

As it stands now, I found out that if I let the throttle go, and 'pump the throttle' the engine starts up full power again. Since the summer is almost over, looks like We will live with it untill I can re-build it.

Thanks for your feed back.

just be carefull as fuel starvation will cause it to run lean and can harm the pistons

Update:

Now that I have run through a new tank of gas and oil, I have no more issues with the bogging down. It appears to run fine now. ( Untill I ran across a sand bar at full speed - plugged it up good - had to paddle home!)

PS. DONT remove the water filter to clean it while the unit is still in the water!! - very bad thing to do!!!!!!!
