Engine bogging down

After running my 455 olds in my jet boat for about 45 minutes the engine starts to bog down like it's starving for fuel. I have replaced the fuel ines and fuel pump. It may be running hot, not sure if the water temp gauge is right. It will eventually stall and I have to sit for 5 minutes then it will run ok for another 15 minutes then bog down again.

I recently had a valve job done on the heads and there were two metal things inside that almost looked like rocks. The machine shop said they were placed there for cooing but I did not put them back in when reassembling the block. Would this have anything to do with it stalling?

I have no clue what these "rocks" would be. Is this machine shop a good somewhat well known place? Have you used them or someone else you know?

I think they were placed there to block the heat going back to the engine. They were made of metal.

Sorry already have everything back together so I don't have any pics of it. The machine shop guy for the heads did a good job on the valves. It was baker cylinder in vegas

I meant the rocks, that werent put back in. Do you have them yet? If you do, take some good pics of them, and post.

As far as the bogging down, is your fuel tank vented, and not plugged up? You can use a temp gun to get close to what its running temp is. Is the carb pumping fuel, you should be able to see if the accelerator pump on the carb is pumping fuel still after it is bogging down. If not, then you may have found something.

Re: Engine bogging down

I forgot to tell, its an edlebrock carb. When I was stalled (in the middle of the darn lake lol...) I did check to see if the carb was getting fuel and it seemed to be getting it. I think something may be plugged upn though. It seemed like as soon as i got on the plane the engine would start to bog then stall. After I sat for minutes it would start right up and go. It started acting up when i was down to below half a tank and seemed to worsen as the gas got lower????
