I purchased a 1990 VIP Vision w/3.0 GM inline 4. The block was cracked in 2 places. I cleaned both places real well and got out the ol JB weld. I have had the boat out serveral times and have not had any problems. But I come from the old school and realize its just buying time. My question is does any one know of any good sources on getting a used block.

Re: Engine Block

Are the cracks on the outside of the block? I have seen and read about stitching cracks in an engine block and it is at least as strong if not stronger, it just depends on where the cracks are. the procedure in a nutshell, is they drill holes from one end of the crack, to the other, then tap and plug the holes, everything I,ve heard about this is good.......good luck, Heck, the jb weld might last a long time who knows....

Re: Engine Block

I put JB Weld on the top of a piston once. I ran the motor for about 20hrs like that then replaced the piston. Needless to say I was really impressed with it. So I think it might last you a long time too.

Re: Engine Block

I would give the JB Weld a shot first. I have used it on a tractor block and it held for years. The 3.0 Liter block is the old GM Iron Duke engine, think it was a Mexican product that replaced that disasterous Vega 4 cyl. The junk yards should have a few of them.
