the pest again I'm afraid
I have an engine BJ30BALCO which is according to you good folks = J30RLCOA 1985

now I have purchased a starter motor for it giving them the engine number BJ30BALCO but there does not appear to be any room available to fit it in - the seller has re-checked and the motor he has sent me is apparently the correct one and has sold lots of them

there are 74 teeth on my flywheel

it's (starter motor) physical size is
body Diameter is 3 1/16"
body length 4 7/8"
overall length is 7 5/8"

can anyone give me a photograph of a 30HP motor with cowling off showing where the starter should sit please

breakdown list from BRP - http://epc.brp.com/Index.aspx?lang=E&s1=8cff395b-bb11-41cd-be09-ccdefebb4275
I assumed it would fit on the bracket 33 but it is way to big to fit in there

thank you for that - it appears that they have changed the bracket for mounting the starter

they have gone from this

to this
bracket.jpg

and I am still none the wiser

on both the starter pinion goes through the tube section like piece but I still cannot see what physically retains the motor (stops it spinning rather than starting) it must be physically clamped somewhere

on the starter motor they have supplied the two bolts that go up through the starter (holding it together) have about half a inch of extra thread sticking through is this utilized or not??

is there something lower down that retains the motor in place ??

here is the parts list for converting to an electric start
completeelecstartkit.gif

and I can see nothing on there that would physically clamp the starter

now looking at the colour photo of the bracket above I can see a bit of the casting like half a tube - am I supposed to take the nuts off the starter that are holding it together and fasten it to there??

which bracket design is the best for me the coloured one or the outline sketch one ??

thank you for taking the time to read this gibberish because the more I look into it the more confused I am getting

The bracket is the same!
To install the starter:
Remove the bracket from the engine.
Same bolts that holds the starter together are used for holding the starter to the bracket. The half inch extra on the long bolts is needed to go through the bracket.
Be careful so the starter does not 'disintegrate' in your hands when attaching to the bracket.
