Okay, I loosened all of my engine mounts on my 92 580 xp to get out a motor mount that somebody had left under there and now I am concerned about engine alignment. Is there such a thing on a jetski and if so how do I go about doing it.

Re: engine alignment

there is a special tool that bolts to where the pump is and it tells you where to place the shims under the mounts, if your motor mounts had shims under them you should have put them back exactly where they came from, I made a tool from an old pump housing.

Re: engine alignment

I didnt see any shims but then again I only lifted it about 1/2 of an inch to get that old mount out. I lifted it strait up and set it straight back down again. I also went and looked for shims that might have fallen off and didnt see any. I was actually worried about left to right because the mounts for the motor have slots.

Re: engine alignment

well it is difficult with those pan engines they stopped making those sitting on a pan because the pans bend and mess up the alighnment, I had one bend from jumping waves once, the only way is an alighnment tool that goes where the pump mounts and lines up the engine ,it is real tough without the proper tool but I guess you can try and look through the pump opening and see if it is really off center however that won't get it perfect. just try to center it as close as possible.
