Hello guys getting ready to install the repower engine on my 23 searay 1987 350, I replaced the engine mounts the old ones were shot, my question is when I drop the engine and Im ready to turn the nut of the mount according to alignment procedures I have to turn one at a time or both on same time, how can I have a idea more or less of setting the new mounts?, thanks for advice.

Once you have the engine lowered into place and the rear mounting bolts done up, move the chain hoist to the loop on the top of the thermostat housing. Lift the engine and run the lower nuts on both side mounts down. While looking in through the gimbal bearing, raise or lower the engine to get it roughly in the right place, then run the lower nuts up on the side mounts until they just touch the engine mount. This is your starting position. Any movement of the side nuts from now on need to be done together. So if you want to raise the engine half a nut turn, then that half nut turn is done on BOTH nuts.... You need to be raising and lowering the engine evenly....

When I have the engine bolted down on the back I have used a 1" pvc pipe and stuck it in the coupler. A 2' piece will give you a rough idea if you need to go up or down. Sometimes it can be frustrating to get your alignment tool in. On one engine, I fought for an hour until I turned the crank 90 deg, and then it went fine. I always am worried about supporting the engine equally also. Once I feel the weight is even on the front nuts, I paint them on one side. Then I can evenly raise or lower them. Also don't for get to bump the gimbal up and down and sideways, you want to make sure it really can gimbal. Dave-R

Last one I lifted the engine as Chris says. That's the only way I will ever do it again.
