Engine alarms

Recently had one of my Mercury Optimax's rebuilt but constantly get alarm of 4 beeps every 2 minutes. Manuel says it is a low oil or water in fuel filter. It is neither of these. Wife is very upset because mechanic either doesn't know how to fix or doesn't care. I'm upset too but not quite so ballistic. Any suggestions? Engines are 2000 150 Optimax

Just took advice from Alldodge posts about making sure oil tank on engine was full. It was not, so started engine and opened top of tank but never could get oil to overflow. Want next?

Hope others can help out, I'm not a expert on the engines. The oil thing was to fill it just under full, start the engine and remove cap and wait. Did you fill the tank before checking? Also in the previous link above there are other things to check as well. If the oil canister should be pressurized and you have no pressure that could be the issue. Some of the other problems discussed were:
water in fuel separator
low battery voltage
float level switch gone bad
