Re: Engine alarm

I have some questions about my 2001 mercury 30hp 2stroke. Today I went out for a 45 min ride (slow speed) and I accelerate and went pass the suggested rpm (5500) when the engine alarm went off (steady sound) I noticed that the gear slipped a couple of times and smoke came out underneath cowling latch ( I'm guessing there is an opening there not sure) so I stopped and shut the engine for like 10 min. After that it started fine and was running like nothing happened. Do I have to worry about that or is there a type of warning system(protection) that makes the engine do that? Thanks!

Re: Engine alarm

Sounds like an over temp on the engine. When was the last time you changed your water pump impeller?

Ok, maybe 2 1/2 years, I'll check on that, water is coming out strong but sometimes I can notice a change of pressure. Thanks!
