Re: Engine alarm still coming on

Thanks for answering Chris I'll try to explain / I can run at high speed no problems - when ii come to a stop engine sometimes wants to stall and does. When i restart I restart the motor the alarm will start sounding. If I pump the fuel bulb hard the engine will run for a while after starting and no alarm but engine will run fine . If the alarm comes on I gun it and pull back on the throttle and thealarm goes off 1995 Johnson v6 carb oceanrunner 2 stroke

I don't have the model number in front of me right now it is not a starting alarm it is the alarm coming on after starting again and if I gun it and pull back on the throttle the alarm shuts off

Describe the alarm. Beeps? How far apart? What is year of motor? Pre 1995 or newer? Can you see if the motor is overheating? Use hands to feel head. Hands can touch normal head for a few seconds. Overheating motor may have burned paint or other symptoms. When was water pump changed last? Thermostats?

Re: Engine alarm still coming on

Check out my post regarding my alarm problem. Mine was a 1995 motor on a 1996 boat with the newer type system check tach and binnacle ect. My alarm comes on intermittently only at slow speeds. Been chasing the problem for a long time. You may care to use premix until you solve the issue. Do you have a system check tack with the oil, hot, check engine and low oil lights? If so my thread may help you.

Re: Engine alarm still coming on

Long continuous beep is over heat alarm. The two main causes is a water pump going bad or a bad thermostat. When running at speed the water pump develops enough pressure to open up the bypass valves even a weak water pump can do that but it might not have enough volume to cool the engine at idle. If you don't know when the water pump was replaced start there first if that fixes it you are good. If it doesn't then move on to the thermostats and change those out. After that you have the overheat sensors a faulty or sensitive sensor could give a false alarm. Use an infrared thermometer take the cylinder temps they should be around 140 - 160 degrees if the cylinders are hotter than that you have trouble. The heads will be warmer than the cylinder water jacket.

Thank you it seems to make sense although they say some engines have a fuel restriction long beep alarm but will check that out thanks again

They can also have a long beep on fuel restriction however you are getting the warning horn at low speed / idle. If you have a fuel restriction I would think you would be having issues at speed as that engine likes to drink fuel.
