Help please!
1994 BAYLINER 2452 Mercruiser 5.0 ALPHA
My engine compartment is flooded with gas this morning. I am currently siphoning it out, but I can locate where it is coming from. Can I get some tips on where to look? Is there a common place where this happens? Any help would be appreciated.

Agree with above, but also check the fuel line going from the tank to the fuel pump. If the fuel line has sprung a leak the anti-siphon valve should have keep the line from draining the tank into the bilge. If the valve went bad or if it was removed, the broken fuel line could drain the tank into the bilge.

Good luck and be safe

I got the gas out and it seems to be coming from under the engine not from the aluminum fuel tank.

I think I found something. The appears to be a hole where a plug belongs between the engine hold and the aluminum gas tank. I di t know for sure but is this possible with my boat?

Think were going to need a pic
If your talking about a hole on the very bottom, right at the Vee. The hole could be to drain water from forward to the bilge area. Now if your getting gas from there (it sounds like you are) your fuel tank is just above it and is probably leaking

I think AD has it right. There should be a hole where he described for water in the hull has a chance to get back the bilge pump or drain hole in the transom. Do you have an access panel to the tank?

Bays are notorious for leaking from the fuel tank. Where is the tank - do you have a mid cabin aka a 'cave'. They are usually under there and they chafe/corrode.

going to be a job to remove if that is the case but very doable.

Has the boat been sitting for awhile?

When was the last time fuel was added and about how much?

If the boats was stored for a while now, about how much fuel was left in it?

If its like the last Bayliner I did, the tank is in the aft cabin area under the floor. At the foward area of the tank the assemblers used 3 inch SS screws
to hold a partition. These screws, along with the vibrations eroded 2 holes right thru the tanks side. Once the tank ir removed they will show themselves .

Go to BOC forums. Lots of info on older 2452 aluminum fuel tanks.

I had a bayliner capri leaking gas and eventually found it was the vent line had deteriorated and was spewing gas when i was filling or when a full tank expanded after a hot day.
