So I purchased a used 2005 merc 75 hp opti.
The original owner (leased) was a fishing lodge in northern B.C. (Canada)
Bought back by dealer in B.C. & brought back to merc's Standards by there trained teckies.
Well after doing my homework (B.B.B., opti recalls/mech. problems)I decided to buy it, price was attrative, 4800.00 + prop.
I won't even go in the hassle of getting the motor..1st warning sign.
Received the motor, well crated & new looking.
Installed motor & gave the once over before taking it to the lake.
Well,Well, not so well, it started, usual smoke from storage & residual oil.
While the engine is definetely quiet, it was missing, again I figure it was due to storage.
Good water stream out the pee hole, P/T works good.Put it in gear, gave it some throttle reached 4000 rpm warning buzzer goes off, cut back to idle, go back up to 4000, steady buzzer goes off.Check stream, ok.Tried surpassing 4000 (I know not g'd) engine guardian kicks in & cuts
rpm's.
Now the motor is seating at a merc dealer, partially disassemble, bad plugs, sensors, filters,
injectors,pump etc.
The only good thing is the warranty, & merc will cover everything to bring it to standard.(the way the original dealer should have.)
Its been 2 wks since I received the motor & waiting to use it.
As the old saying goes, if the price is to good to be true, it probably is.
If your interested in this sob event, i'll update when i get the motor back.
CW
