Next weekend I will be trailering an empty boat trailer roughly 300 miles one way......the way back will have an attached boat

I have heard that weight should be added to reduce bouncing. Is this true??? what is a good way to do this, if I need too?

I was thinking 2x4's acoss the bunks.....but I really dont know.....

Heres a pic of the trailer for reference.
Re: Empty Trailer.

i would hook it up and take it on a trail run and couple of mile dwon the highway. you need to do that anyway since you put new bearing in.

Ive tested it for about 8miles.........bounces around some, but not really sure how much is acceptable.

Plus its 300 miles........

If it matters the temp will be 10-20F, snowy.

Re: Empty Trailer.

Hook it up and go. No need to add weight. Just keep speed reasonable and watch out for the real deep pot holes.

Re: Empty Trailer.

imho i think the stops are the worst problem. it will follow, but being so lite, in a sudden stop you might be looking the the trailer tail lights.

I did notice stopping was a little different.......can't really describe the difference, just i could "feel" the trailer differently if that makes any sense lol. I braked a few times pretty hard and the trailer seemed to handle fine......how that will relate to a freeway brake slam if need be is unknown.

Idk, one benefit is i do have that plank running the length of the trailer and those guide ons adding weight...........hopefully that is enough. i dont want to hassle with adding weight. Keep the advice coming guys.....seems like I will be fine. I trust your opinions

Everything will be fine the way it is, no need to add weight.

Keep tires fully inflated.

If tires are underinflated, trailer will bounce more.

You getting a new boat? :)
