hi guys, i really hope you can help
We had our 2 little engines in for repair/service, the honda works great but the mercury was in for a replacement ignition coil and the recoil spring for the pull start, so i got here on the boat and pulled, guess what the same thing happened it would not return ,there is not tension to take in the cord at all.

I have called and left a message with the service centre and awaiting reply. however my question is, if this happened in general, how would i get a chance to pull the engine if this recoil return was to happen when in an emergency, is there a way to manually return this cord, and if so how?

Any other ideas gratefully welcome, we saved up to have these repairs done only to hAve no joy after handing over our money.
the engine is a 6hp 2 stroke..not sure of year but id say between 5-10 yrs though aprt from the recoil problem, she was always a super starter.

please help

Hard to say without real knowing which model you have but most engines if the recoil is removed have a notch in the flywheel for a starter rope.

hi, i will get the correct details and model of engine in the morning, but if im right regarding your thery, i could remove the return coil spring and wind this back manually and i can still manuel start this??
as its a back up engine it would not be pulled that often except for checks before trips etc
