Emergency kill switch

Recently I have been doing alot of night fishing alone. I usually end up running the bayous around midnight or so. Using the lights from the houses and the moon I can usually see objects on the waters surface, but the one thing that bothers me is the objects that float just below that cant be seen.
Im considering hooking up an emergency kill switch, the kind that attaches to your body and kills the engine if pulled loose. After running in last night I realized that if I did hit something I would most likely be thrown forward and have little or no chance of backing off the throttle.
Im running a 48 SPL Johnson with Johnson controls(year unknown), but I see no provision for a lanyard. How do I install one? What wires should I connect to? I have found them for atvs for a good price that have 2 wires and there is a choice of normally open or normally closed, can these be used and if so what circuit position?
Thanks for any advice and yes I do wear a pfd at night.

Re: Emergency kill switch

Two stroke engines are killed by shorting two MAG wires together so with the lanyard in place, those contacts need to be open. When the lanyard is pulled, the switch closes. In electronics, switches are considered normally open or normally closed in their "inactive" state. So you would need a "normally closed" switch. However, if the switch manufacture happens to think it's a normally open switch in the "normal mode of operation" then the terminology is opposite so you need to know what the application is for that particular switch.

Here's a Duckworks Magazine article on how to install one:

Very good idea. There was a guy on a lake near to me killed just recently while he was boating alone. No matter how experienced you are, @#%^ happens. They make some pretty cool looking life vests as well now, no need to wear the big bulky pumpkin balloons. I have to admit, I dont always wear mine, but if Im alone, I do.
