Emergency / Kill lanyard for old Evinrude Fisherman?

I'm rehabbing a 68 Evinrude Fisherman 6HP. Is there any way to easily install a kill / disconnect lanyard on this motor? I don't like the idea of the boat continuing to run, possibly injuring people, if I fall out or am knocked away from the throttle.

if not commercially available you can probably install a cut-off switch to kill the ignition by tying into the points under he flywheel. .
I had a diagram but I need to find it...

Thanks. I'm not exactly an engine expert (in fact, I'm a total newb), so hopefully I can make this work. But I do want a "pull" lanyard more than a kill button. My guess is I can get either one, it's all in if/how I can connect it.

You can get a generic lanyard kill switch and wire it in. I believe you'd set that one up as a ground to kill.

Just parallel it with the current manual kill switch if there is one.

Someone on here can probably tell you off the top of their heads the exact way to wire it up....
I'd have to find the exploded view and wiring diagram for your engine (or actually look at the engine)

Really simple though.

There isn't an existing manual switch of any sort. I wish there was. I think it would make this a lot easier.

It's a points ignition two cylinder engine with two sets of points ........ right ?

If you connect a switch between the moving contacts of each set of points it will kill the engine when the switch is closed

Lash something up just to test it out before going ahead and fitting a proper lanyard kill switch

send me a PM with your EMAIL I will scan a OMC service document explaining how to do it but be advised you do need to pull the flywheel to connect a NORMALLY OPEN switch linking the points ( you need to tie into the screws holding down the wires from each coil/condenser assemblies.

NORMALLY OPEN means no electrical flow between wires. When you flip overboard with your safety cord attached to you it pulls away the UCLIP and the switch CLOSES shorting out the coils and killing the engine.

you must first find a proper cut-off switch and you will need to drill 2 small holes in the mag plate to pass the wires going to the kill switch

drill the holes where the wires will not interferer the rotational movement of the mag plate nor chaff themselves on a sharp corner .
