Email display of pictures/images?

I just received an email response from a vendor on how to search for items on their website. In it were a couple of Screen Shots that they sent to show me how to do it. The screen shots were just little red X's. The banner on the email said UNICODE (UTF-8) I was opening the email in Outlook Express.

I logged onto my email server in the cloud to see if the images showed there. They did.

What is going on? Why wouldn't the images display thru Outlook Express? There were no messages about about security issues or buttons that said to 'show images', like I get with some emails.

Check your outlook settings to see if it is actually downloading the images included in the message, often times the setting won't allow images to be displayed. I have all of my emails set up to NOT allow images, I have to specifically tell my program to display the images. The reason I don't display images is due to the fact they can contain malware and viruses. I also have my email program set up to not allow execution of scripts.

Also, double check your firewall as well as your security essentials program to make sure they are allowing them through.

Haven't used Outlook Express in some time but I seem to remember it didn't like picture attachments

It's been a long time, but I think outlook express had issues receiving email with images from Mac clients. It wanted to change them over to something else, and UNICODE rings a bell. Can't recall for sure, though.

Boom, have you thought about downloading and using something like Thunderbird? I use the native Mail app on Mac, but I've seen and played with Thunderbird, and it's a pretty slick client.

I am using Thunderbird on my Win 7 laptop. I think you are right on OE because I logged on to my email server in the sky and opened the email in question. The pictures were displayed. I never did try it in Thunderbird.

Many or even most times my Outlook will leave the picstures out, but if you hover over the red X a dialog box will tell you that right-clicking will download the images. Kind of a space/performance type feature.

Outlook Express never impressed me ... Outlook proper has actually always worked rather nicely, but the Mac version seems to be a memory hog.

Mail is just convenient for me on the Mac, but there are several open source clients that seem to work exceptionally well. Thunderbird being (IMHO) one of the best.

I seem to remember that there were no dreaded red x's in the email. I would have least looked to see if there were 'properties',
