We have a Elk preserve near by and we go there quite often when the bulls are growing there horns. They arent very close to the road very often, but I got a new zoom lens for my digital camera so I thought I would give it a try. He wasnt but only about 150 yards away. I love watching them grow there horns this time of the year.

I also have an elk farm about 1/2 mile from my house, it is incredible how fast their antlers grow, it seems like 4-6" a day. I don't know for sure but they do grow very fast. The elk in my area are just getting over shedding their winter coat, they sure do look bad when they are shedding.

DougV>

Fun to hunt too. :D I always look forward to October but it can wait so I can enjoy summer first. Do you ever go up there during the rut to listen to them bugle? Djvan...4-6 inches a day is proabably not far off, they can grow 2-300+ inches of antler in just a few months. Antler is the fastest growing bone in the world.
