My Mariner 90hp 2 cycle OB229536 warning horn sounded so I took it to a tech. He said "bad float sending unit and oil lines", replaced the lines and suggested new tank, float, and sensor. I asked him to just isolate the feeding lines to the pump and I will run premix 50:1. This done, might I cause damage to the oil pump impeller from no oil feeding to it? I understand there may be prior discussion on this topic but I find no options or instructions to access archives.

My 90 had the tank mounted on the engine and had a crankshaft driven oil pump. I removed 3 screws, pulled the pump out, pulled the gear (with stem) out of the pump, put the pump back on the engine and went with my 50:1. I could have pinched off a line but this way nothing in the pump is moving, nor running dry which "may" cause some kind of a seizing problem in the pump and I can sleep good at night. I did write on my transom, adjacent to my fuel inlet port to mix oil and gas so that I wouldn't forget to add oil when fueling.
