On the side of both my Elgin motors is an arrow pointing and saying cooling water confirmation. I cant seem to find any port where the water from the pump comes out on either side of the motor. Does anyone know where else I should look?

Don't know what year that motor is but if it is one of the air cooled Eska built models the water pump only pumps water up into the lower leg to cool the upper seal. Does your motor have holes on the sides of the leg like the one in the picture? If so that is what the arrows are pointing to. You should see a spray of water and exhaust coming out.DSC05023.JPG

dwc is suggesting that your powerhead may be air cooled. If so, you will see cooling fins on it, like a lawnmower engine.

Show us the year, HP, model number and / or a picture and we can answer your question.

I have this exact same question - mine's a '54 Elgin 5HP. I can send a picture if that would help. There is nothing I can see in the immediate vicinity where the decal points. There are holes in the trailing edge of the leg where hot water spits out when the engine is running, but I see no cooling fins on the powerhead to indicate it's air cooled.

See attached.
That Elgin appears to be about 1954 or so made by West Bend. Yes it is water cooled. Darned if I know where the telltale is but you could check close below where the arrow points and see if there is about a 3/16th or so hole clogged with rust or crud. Some one on the list may be able to tell you exactly where it is. I have a 3.5 a few year older than that in my other shop and next time I go up there I will look and see where the telltale is on it.

I have a '54 5 HP, as shown in the pictures. The telltale hole is to the left of the sticker, right behind the tiller handle bracket.
