Hello all... It is time to address my ugly trailer situation. I got a quote to sand blast and electrostatic paint on my trailer for $425. Is that a decent price and who knows anything about the durability of this painting process?
Thanks!

this is how most car mfgrs paint their new body shells to ensure good paint adhesion, and it's also done when powder coating....that's what makes the powder stick to the metal before the heat fuses it into a solid coat. so my take is it should be plenty durable. not based on any personal experience tho.

Does the trailer need any other work? If so then forget because a brand new galvanized trailer for your boat could be had for prolly around $1200ish.

The trailer is pretty squared away. The spring bushings need to be replaced but that is it mechanically. The damn thing is just ugly!

It needs spring bushings and could use some tires. It tows good and I have some work into it already so I am not ready to give up on it yet. I can paint it myself but it is tempting to just getting it done. There is so much surface rust that I think sandblasting is the only option.

Re: Electrostatic painting for trailer

The electrostatic painting is the most durable paint process out there. It is chemecally and electrically applied to the surface. The sprayer sends a positive charge to the paint as it leaves the sprayer and it is drawn to the negative charge on the trailers surface. It dries very fast and is very durable. The prep work has to be done properly and no rust left before applying the paint to the trailer.

Electrostatic painting is what almost every vehicle , appliance and furniture is painted with from the factory. The price you got sounds very good considering it cost me $450 to get a refrigerator or tub done.

just to toss an idea out there....for abt the same $, you could get the portable powder coating setup from Eastwood (the old-car resto outfit) incl the IR heat lamp, POWDER COAT the durn thing, and then have the tools. these get very good reviews from everyone who's used em. expect i'll eventually buy one myself. powder is electrostatically applied but when heat fused, becomes almost like ceramic coating.
