thrusday i drove 4 hours to pickup my brand new g3 1860 at the dealership in billings montana.... it has a galvanized trailer.. when we pluged the trailer in to my car, we turned on the emergency flashers to see if all was working and the car worked but the trailer only had running lights.. wednesday the day before we left, i had just had the shop down the street from my buisiness put on the three and one trailerplug on my 2004 escape.. when i got back home i took it into the place that put on the plug and i told them they didnt do something right.. they said that it was my trailer and it burnt up an expensive duo flasher unit about 80.00 dollars, and some blown fuses,.. im guessing 100- 160 dollars total damage.. i went home and put a meter on the trailer, all of the trailer (4 plug ends) had continuity with each other and none of them had continuity from the plug to the tung on the trailer.. to me it looks like the trailer wrecked my flasher and i hope nothing else.. ill take the boat and car down to a g3 dealer and see what they say.. will g3 pay for the dameage to my car?? ive had the new boat for three days.. dave...

New boat new trailer new warrenty, however since you took it to the shop down the street and not the dealer which you should have, you may be on your own with vehicle repair.

Re: electrical problems

If you have continuity between the three non-ground pins (yellow, green, and brown) you definitely have a trailer problem. There should only be continuity between the green and white, yellow and white, and brown and white wires. I would start this process by checking any exposed trailer wiring for signs of heat damage (melted insulation). If found, you then need to see where the wires are pinched.

Re: electrical problems

You SHOULD show continuity between Y, G, B, & W since one end of each filament in each bulb is tied to the W or ground making them all common. That condition doesn't mean there's a problem.

Obviously those tests should be run with the bulbs out of the circuit otherwise you are right. You will have continuity between circuits.

Re: electrical problems

ffffg said he 'went home and put a meter on the trailer'. He didn't indicate he had removed the bulbs. With the bulbs out you should NOT have continuity anywhere except maybe W to trailer frame.

Re: electrical problems

Dave, does your Escape have amber turn lights? If it does, there's the problem. You need a converter for your trailer to work correctly since the brake and turn on the trailer use the same light.
