With the key switch off. I sometimes get a low voltage drain (my dash volt meters says <10 volts) and a buzz under the hood on my 1999 Honda 130 OB. The moter will run fine. The last time I shut the engine down after a few minutes the key stitch control box Beeped twice like it does when you turn the key to on but it did it by itself. I also got a red battery light. I have to disconnect the battery to stop it. Sometimes it clears up sometimes not. Do I have a bad key switch or some electrical box under the hood?

What's buzzing?

I believe the red light indicates a battery drain. The buzzing could be something remaining energized. Determining what's buzzing will help determine whether the key switch is bad (if the thing buzzing gets power through the key switch or not). On my boat with a 1999 BF130 the voltmeter doesn't read when the key is off - are you sure you're actually reading less than 10 volts (I'm surprised you can start your engine if your battery is less than 10 volts; 10 volts on a battery is possibly indicative of a shorted cell).

The two beeps after you walk away seems to indicate the key switch has a short in it, and if the thing buzzing gets power through the key switch, that'll sure confirm it.

I only get the 10 volts when I have the problem. When I turn the key to on I will get my 12 volts. My meter will read zero if the problem is not there.

A bad switch is conceivable ,but it is more likely a short in the harness or control. Which control or switch/control pattern are you useing?

The only way to really start troubleshooting this is to isolate the remote and main harness by plugging the engine into those two components you know work. You do'nt want to be poking around inside the remote looking for an elusive bare wire.If you did'nt have one before you soon will after that adventure. There is'nt any way to see what is happening in that harness. If your control has been switched from the standard handle on the left ,to handle on the right ,you've probably got a control problem.
