Hello,
I've been running my 60hp merc for a while now it has 150 hours on it with no issues until recently this year.
It started with me running the motor wot one day and I made it about a mile before the motor completely shut off and I lost power. Was no ready beep when I turned the key. After monkeying around with wires for a while I found that if I moved the main wires plug and where it connects to the harness I would get the ready beep to come on/off as I continued to move the cable/harness. I moved it into a position that made it happy and had no problems for maybe 10 hours.
Now the same issue is back the motor will randomly loose full power except now the continuous beep starts when the motor shuts off. Turning the key off and back on stops the beep but the motor starts hard and you have to crank it to get it to turn over.
I know a guy with a code reader and it shows nothing but the reader kept cutting in and out so we assumed a short. I took the control box apart and the purple ignition wires were melted and exposed. I replaced the ignition and faulty wires thinking the problem was solved.
Just took it out again today and it died, constant beep, turned the key off and back on, had to crank and it started hard. Ran fine for 20 mins after that.
I live in a rural area and can't get the motor to a dealer easily - I spoke to the dealer over the phone and they're stumped without looking at the motor.
Any suggestions or insight? Anyone delt with a similar problem?
