I have a 16' 6" canoe and I am wondering the minimum amount of pounds thrust I would need. Here in Canada I can get get a 20 lb thrust one for about half the price of a 33 lb thrust one.

Depends on how fast you want to move. 20# on a canoe would certainly beat paddling.

Thanks,

That answered my question.

As long as it will move me thats all I need.

I wiill probably use it once a year so the 20 will satisfy what I need. I usually paddle.

IIRC, I have a minnkota endura 30lb I use with my canoe. They were on sale for less than $100 when I bought it a little over a year ago. At its highest speed, the canoe has a small wake behind it. The extra power also comes in handy for positioning in windy conditions and when weeds are a problem.

Once you use the motor, your estimated percentage of use will probably flip the other way. Now, I use my paddle only for launching and to traverse big weed patches.

The 20# model will do just fine. The bigger model will only give you an extra half mph maybe.
