electric shift unit

let me start with hello boater ,i am changing the lower unit lube on a 85hp evinerude with electric shift ,what is the right lube for it ,right now it smells like just plain old gear lube ,i was told that was not good for it and it took a special kind just for electric shift unit ,is that right and what kind?

Type "C" or premium.

It takes type "c" or now called "premium blend" avalible at any johnson/evinrude dealer. some walmarts may carry it but have never seen it at mine. also try napa, they may carry it as well.
