Thanks to everyone for the informative post. Bought my first omc last summer after having several outboards and have learned a lot here. Picked up a 1977 imp w/ a 351w for next to nothing and it's been a great boat so far. However, I lost forward yesterday. Was running wot and lost it. Reverse still works and I'm suspecting it's a spring. That will be a winter project. I have a chance to buy two 1975 140 hp complete units worth the money and would like to get a few more trips before summer winds down. . I realize the upper gears are different, but the 140 lower unit should swap out with my 235 lower unit correct? I also have a spare 190 upper unit. Will the 140 lower mate to it also? Thanks for the help.
