electric shift 72 50hp outboard

Does anyone know how to check the silenoids in the lower unit? We have forward but the reverse only works 5% of the time. This in an evinrude motor.

Locate the two wires going to the lower unit. With the key on and the motor not running you will have no power to either wire for forward. 12 volts to one wire is neytral. 12 volts to both wires is reverse.<br /><br />Also make sure you have the correct gearcase lube -- it's very important since the unit operates by hydraulic pressure.<br /><br />Good luck!
