I have a Johnson 70 with an electric primer. When the engine is cold, I can push the key in and the engine will crank. But, until the engine warms up, I have to bump the key over and over again...little quick bumps...to keep the engiine running. Once the engine gets warm I don't have a problem for the rest of the day...purrs like a kitten. The red knob is the the 9:00 position so I think that is set right. Thanks.

The red arm on the primer solenoid should be aligned with the large cylindrical part of the unit. The 90 degree position is for manual emergency starting.

I'll check on more time. But, I am confident that I have it as shown in your picture. If so, any idea why I would have to bump the key.

Isn't having the ability to bump the key the reason the electric primer is there? I think that you don't have a problem at all and the system is working properly. I'm no expert by any means though.

The warm up lever is the usual way to keep the engine running until it warms up, because it advances the timing while adding a little extra fuel by opening the throttle plates a bit.

While the need for bumping the key may indicate a small carburetor problem, I would suspect that you need to revisit the linkage and synchronization section in your service manual.

The primer solenoid is there to take the place of the choke plate system used in earlier engines. It bypasses the carburetors and injects fuel directly into the intake, thus enriching the fuel/air mix.
