I have a 2002 Trailmaster that has 4 wheel disk surge brakes. Can I convert this to electric brakes by simply changing the acuator at the front of trailer tongue? If not, what would be involved?

BiXLL,

To change over to straight electric-no. To change over to electric over hydraulic-most likely.

I would suggest you talk to the folks at Champion Trailer.

The more I think about it, the more I am feeling like I am getting way more involved then what I want to!

What is wrong with the surge brakes??
You just don't like them??

If you want electric brakes then you change the brakes on all wheels for electric brakes then run wiring, add a battery operated break away syatemplus install an electric brake controller on the tow vehicle.

For electric over hydraulic you reuse brakes and change actuator plus install brake controller in tow vehicle.

Re: Electric Brakes

I all ready had the controller in my truck from my camper. I like the feel of the electric brakes, and the ability to adjust their pull. I have decided that for all I tow the boat however, I will live with the 4 wheel disk surge.

Spark Chaser,

It's not that I don't like surge brakes, it's just that you do not have much control over them.
