my 1987 yamah power tilt elec. motor finally stopped working after tapping it to go the past 2 seasons. does the outboard motor have to come off the boat to replace this motor? there are 2 visible bolts outside of the elec. motor. but i cant see if there is a bolt between the elec. motor and the outboard's bracket. or is there a special tool or trick to take the elec. motor off?or a special tool to get the bolt that i assume is behind that motor off. i also need to buy the motor.let me know where to get it a.s.a.p.

You shouldn't have to take the motor off. I can remove my trim/tilt unit from my 225 Yam, so I assume that you can do the same for a 90.

I bought a working trim/tilt unit on ebay for $65 bucks. I was pretty happy about that. I just needed to replace my trim pistons so I checked around ebay and found the whole unit. I swapped out the pistons and now I have a spare motor and parts if I ever need it.
