EFi - Not sure how this works

Hi Guys, I just acquired a FourWinns Horizon 190 1996 vintage with a 5.0l EFi Volvo SX Inboard. The marks on the engine actually describe it as "50FAPHUE OMC Cobra 5.0 Efi".

I want to use the optional fuel transducer with my NAVMAN Tracker GPS plotter, but the instructions say :- CAN be used with EFI engines (that was a surprise), but NOT with ones which have a fuel return to the tank (NAVMAN says these are rare).

I though ALL EFi engines had a pumped high pressure primary fuel circuit.

Can anyone shed any light on this please ?

I believe that engine is a ford 302CID engine. It should have a low pressure pump and a vapor seperator tank that contains the high pressure pump. The fuel returns from the fuel rail pressure regulator to the seperator tank, not the boats fuel tank. The fuel transducer should work fine.

Dave

yes I agree the diesel version goes back to the tank not the GAS.

Re: EFi - Not sure how this works

the stock ford system used a vapor seperator to catch return fuel and also to cool the fuel. marine power still makes a set up that uses a fuel cooler or a return to the tank. I installed one last year with a tank return. I dont like them but it works.
