EFI fuel/filter system question

Just recently bought a boat 1998 Mariah 7.4 EFI. Boat only had 54 hours when I bought it. I was going through all the receipts and never seen the fuel filter replaced. Looked at the current quicksilver filter is dated from 10/1997. Engine idled perfect and run fine. Had a small issue hard starting when hot but think this was my issue. Should I clean anything in the fuel system in case the paper filter starting going to pieces or do these hold up good over time? Thanks

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,.... Fuel filters should be changed annually, or whenever water in the fuel is suspected...

Thanks. Im just conconcered if these filters start deteriorating after a certain time and if I need to clean the rest of the fuel system? I guess im just being overly concerened but the boat ran smooth.

After 14 years, it's not even a question if you should change them or not, change them. 54 hours mean's it's done more setting than running, and for engines, drives, and gasoline. That is not a good thing. I would be curious about all the other maintenance items. Impellers, bellows, gear lube, transom condition.

Re: EFI fuel/filter system question

Just replace the fuel filter. And since the original owner never bother to change even THAT, I would go through the entire motor and give it a complete tune up, impeller change, clean flame arrestor, etc etc. That is just ridiculous.
