Weber 4 bbl, divorced choke

New carb: Edelbrock 1409 with the jets/metering rod calibration kit; electric choke.

SO, I'm in the middle of swapping out the Weber for the Edelbrock 1409. Changed the jets and rods, installed the (-) on the choke to the choke mounting screw, brought it out to the boat for the swap and found a couple of oddities...

1) There is no "Choke pull-off", nor anyplace to mount the old one on the new, as that is where the electric choke is on the new.

2) Also not the port on the new carb immediately in front of the fuel inlet. What goes there?

3) I've got a purple with white stripe wire in very close proximity to where the choke will be. Is this the right wire to tap into for power for the choke

Thanks in advance!

No choke pull off on elec. Choke. Port in front of inlet is for mech pump tell tale/sight tube. Purple wire if constant 12v and wiring and fuse can handle draw. Just my input from past experience.

Without looking at a wiring diagram, I don't know if your wire will work or not. But you will not want constant 12v - but rather switched 12v.

The manifold choke was used with the #9600 weber carb.To convert useing the edelbrock 1409 w/ elec choke, block off the manifold choke hole, use the purple wire for the electric choke it's 12 volts, inlet port is sight tube cap it. just remember the #1485 rods and jets are supposed to be used with edelbrock performer manifold #2111. these carburetors are BASICALLY the same, the weber original has .089 pri and secondaries with 68 x 57 rods and yellow spring which equaled roughly 475 -500 cfms. The Edelbrock is a 600 cfm carb belive it or not this engine requires only a 325 cfm carb to work correctly. I'm not a big fan of the edelbrock #1409 your not going to get that smooth idle you had with the weber or the fuel economy. good luck

No, the Purple/white wire is not what you want. That wire is normally for a ThunderboltV igntion system and used for putting the distributor into base timing mode.
You need to tap into a purple wire coming from the ignition switch. Or, better yet, hook a wire from the AC tap on your alternator and not even mess with wiring it to your 12V ignition wiring.
OMC and Volvo have done that for many years with no problems.

Correct. I meant ignition sourced(switched) but hot anytime the key is in run position.

don't mean to step on your toes Don but he has a 1994 thunderbolt 4 timing is still done with a light and timing tab, my manual #18 says the purple wire I'm refering to is ignition switch 12 volts I have it on my 1995 4.3 . my #18 manual says that the purple/white is for trailer switch. but your probably right.....

I found a solid purple wire with a connector tucked back behind the carb. Checked it , and its switched so i putt a blade on the end of the red wire from edelbrock plugged it into the purple, thne plugged it to the choke. Seems to be working fine. Gonna splash her tomottow and will pull the arrestor to make sure choke is opening. Got her to idle at about 700.

The purple white wire is used for the trim system, but it's not up by the carb as shown in his picture. My guess is the engine is a 95 and an early Thunderbolt V. It's not uncommon for boats to have a year newer or older engine package. Without an engine serial number, it's hard to say.
