Ebbtide Bass Boat's 3 trim / tilt switches

I have a mid 80s Ebbtide 16' bass boat. It has three tilt and trim switches. One up front in the bow panel, one on the control handle mid ship and one on the stern. The stern one is very useful when raising the motor up to put a brace under the motor. My issue is my stern switch no longer works, but the other two do. Anyone have a hint on testing this switch or rewiring. I assume they are wired together somehow because they all three work the same electric motor but I know NOTHING. I could have even kicked off a wire under the console but I dont think so. This just happened, no pre indications of trouble.... Thanks

You'll have to get your meter out and check it. It will be a double throw switch with off in the middle so it will be momentary on, off, momentary on. There will be 3 wires and one will be live with 12v (unless it has been disconnected).

Rcauto,

It sounds like the switches are wired in parallel and that one of the power wire to the switch is cut/disconnected some where or you have a break in the wire in which testing with a dvm for voltage would tell you where the problem is for both issues.
It will most likely be a red wire 12v from the battery or a red and pink strip which is 12V with an inline fuse from the key switch. As you trace the problem drawing a diagram would be a good idea with wire colors and pin connections so that next time you have a problem you have a picture to look at.

Is this switch integrated into the motor housing, if so the wiring diagram will be in your engine repair manual. Sometimes after 20 years a switch can get some gunk inside that insulates the contact points, if the wiring checks out, you might could open it up and clean it out. Let us know how it goes.
