Easier way to flush Volvo 3.0?

Just got our 2005 Glastron 175MX with a Volvo 3.0 i/o. I was excited when I was told that there's a "convenient" flush port for flushing the motor after being in salt water.

Maybe I'm being a complainer, but unless I'm missing something, it's not at all convenient. First the folded bimini is in the way of the engine cover (obviously no fault of Volvo). Then when the engine cover's open, unless you're 6'5" tall, there's no way to connect a garden hose to the flush port without practically climbing inside the engine compartment. Since the flush port is way back near the back of the motor and since the engine cover is hinged from the rear, you pretty much have to climb halfway in to connect the hose.

Is this normal for i/o's? Is a better alternative to get the earmuffs that connect to the outdrive so you don't have to climb in and out of the boat multiple times to turn the hose on and off to connect and disconnect it (or is this even possible)?

Thanks for tolerating a newbie question.

Is it in a slip or do you trailer it back and forth? If you trailer it i would use the muffs.

It's not normal for IO's in general, but it is getting very common by boat manufacturers to make things totally impossible to perform necessary preventive maintenance. And of course the techs that have to fix it and Volvo (or Mercruiser) gets the blame for the big labor bills, not the idiot engineers that make the stuff impossible to access. Before I go any further with my rant and have to delete my own post for obscenities I will stop

Yes, you can get muffs and flush that way. If you use it in salt water, get a Salt away mixing unit to help flush the salt out.

Haz, it's trailered. I can see how that would make it different if it weren't.

Don, thanks for your feedback. I'll be using it almost exclusively in salt water. Is the Salt Away mixing unit an accessory that I'd need in addition to the muffs and if so, what would be wrong with the muffs alone? I surmise that the combination just does a better job getting the NaCl out of there?

Thanks,

Chris
