DETROIT (AP) -- Geological experts say a small earthquake centered in southwestern Michigan has been felt around the state as well as across the Upper Midwest.
U.S. Geological Survey geophysicist Paul Caruso said the 4.2-magnitude temblor was recorded shortly after noon Saturday and its epicenter was about 9 miles southeast of Kalamazoo near Galesburg.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries despite being felt far away. Caruso says that's common for quakes of this magnitude.
People have reported feeling the earthquake in Indiana, Ohio, Illinois and across Lake Michigan in Wisconsin.

I always said Michigan was great, a couple of the reasons were we don't have hurricanes and we don't have earthquakes.. I guess it's down to no hurricanes.

I was driving when it hit and didn't feel anything. My wife call me and told me about it. She said it rumbled loudly and rocked the house. The epicenter was about 30 miles from the house.

Crazy stuff.

I have lived in many states in the US during my career and have gone through small earthquakes in all of them, they can happen anywhere anytime.

We had a 3. something quake 1.25 miles from me in a few weeks ago in Lake in the hills Illinois.
The earth quakes in the upper Midwest are caused by the weight of the ice from the last ice age pushing the earth down, every now and then an area of land pops back up.

I remember one waaaaaaaaaaay back when I was in high school. As I recall it was centered in Northern Indiana. We felt it in Detroit ... but only so much that we all thought we had a dizzy spell together.

My neighbor said he heard a noise and said his siding on his house started to shake. We're NW of Detroit about 50 miles.

Back in the early 80's there was an earthquake centered somewhere under Lake Erie. It was strong enough that it woke us up out of a sound sleep. We were sleeping in a 2nd floor bedroom when the quake struck. The whole house was shaking and it lasted for what seemed to be at least a minute. Even though I had never to my knowledge been in an earthquake before we both knew what it was. Both our kids slept right through the whole thing.

We had a 3.2 quake about 4 miles south of Canton, MS yesterday. Early in the evening, like 7:30-8 oclock.

My sister sent me a pic of the devastation in her neighborhood. She say's they will rebuild. It may just take awhile.

For us, a 4.2 is hardly worth talking about. We call those pressure relief quakes.

I think there was a 4.3 in LA at about the same time. I would have thought the Michigan quake was more news worthy, but most of what I saw was LA.

We lived on Guam when I was a little kid. I still remember the earthquake we had there. My friend and I were playing on a bit of a slope and lost our footing. My mom said the dishes and her spices all tried to come out of the cabinets. My dad was in the carport under an old car he was working on and didnt feel a thing. My mom said the base newspaper had stories of people thinking we were getting bombed and jumping in their shelters. That was almost as important as the time the supply ship for the commissary ran aground coming into the harbor. :)

I remember when I was stationed in Hawaii, we had our residence on the Big Island and I commuted to the base on Oahu, it was quite common to have earth quakes and we really didn't think much about it, until it started going over 5.0, which honestly was a pretty normal occurrence.
