I all. I picked up an early model white and blue Honda 10 horse with the points ignition about 10 months ago. It has ran before full speed fine but I have to ease into it sometimes to get it to rev up. Other times like today, it idles poorly and was backfiring and popping out of the carb and a bit hard to start. I have cleaned the carb multiple times and recently put it in an ultra Sonic cleaner with no difference. Compression was around 120 psi even. Plugs are old and what came with it but seem to work . Whoever owned it before had the intake side apart. Point and condenser are new. I gapped it to 0.014” with no reference point on the engine besides eyeballing where the gap opened the largest. I am believing by this to be a timing/valve issue. But I have no experience with working on 4 strokes extensively. It seems like a good but ugly cosmetically kind of engine. I know it has potential but I am loosing optimism.
