Looks like my season is over for now. Just got word that the roaring noise in the back of the tow vehicle (2002 dakota) is the differential bearings.

No tow vehicle, no boating.

Enjoy whats left folks, hope to see you on the water next summer

Don't you have a friend that would like to go boating or fishing or find someone that would like to make a couple of extra bucks to get that tow vehicle fixed:D

^^^Yeah ditto that, or try renting, even U-HAUL if need be.

Sad to hear the bad news, but don't let it stop you if you can.

You're not going to let a $500.00 part stop you, are you??

Look here >>http://www.car-part.com/

It's not to big of a job to put a new rear end in.

If only it were that simple.
I have limited slip in the rear end, and it has a chronic failure point that most used differentials have already experienced, or will soon in the future, leaving me in the same boat again. I have it already planned for replacement of the failed part, but it will take some time to get the $$$ here to do it. Once done, it WONT fail again in the same way.

Given the condition of the ramps here at the local lakes LSD is almost mandatory (slimy as hell and no traction), and I have put it in 4wd before due to wheelspin. I would rather cut the season short a bit, or at least take a break, than end up in SHT because I either couldnt get it out, or dunked the whole truck.....

It's a )^^)(*&) 8 year old Dakota. Put a standard rear end in it, some sand bags in the box, use 4WD if needed, and go fishing. If you can't drive that up anything that's called a boat ramp, spend some of the saved money on driving lessons.

Heck, I use a soccer van to pull my bass boat most of the time.
