Here's the deal, and old friend of a friend has a 25' Gravois welded deep vee that he bought but it was too much for him to handle, so it sat in his back yard, and sat, and sat, he'll take $5K for the whole rig, the hulls worth that, but it has twin 225 Evinrudes on it that have sat for at least 3 years, I took one of the covers off and it was clean enough to eat off of inside, but he assumes they're shot after sitting for this long, I would think they're still OK, what should I check or do before I try to crank them?

Did he fog the motor before storing them? They should'nt be locked up remove the plugs and try turning them by hand. If they turn they should be fine. Replace the plugs with new ones. Drain the carbs and make sure you have fresh gas.If they fire up do a compression test. Then replace the water pumps. Maybe you will get lucky.

i like to turn the up, and let marvelmystery oil set in the overnite, let me down to drain, clean up the mess, then turn by hand, gives a change for the oil to work into the rings. i've revived them after sitting much longer.

Before starting, drain the float bowls on each carburetor, flush the fuel lines, and get rid of any fuel in the tanks. This will help to keep from pulling any junk into the carburetors. Replacing all of the oil and gas filters will also help.

Whatever you do don't clean the carbs. Just run it like it is. Then call me. I have one of those blocks with pistons I need to sell.
