I know this is a general question, but....as a whole are these decent motors? Here is a little info. It is an early 80s 115hp motor. The outside and inside condition look good, it has a CMC tilt/trim with it, I do not know compression yet because I have not been to see it. The current owner says it runs strong and never any hiccups. My question is, are these motors for the most part strong and long lasting? Yes I know there are many factors that can come into play....but again for the general question are they decent? I have always owned Mercury motors, so I will be getting something that I am not familiar with at all. I am getting the motor, tilt/trim and the controls all for a very good price. So if anyone with any experience or knowledge can give me a heads up if I will regret or what issues should I look for prior to purchase I would appreciate it.

The parts/service issues certainly aren't going to get any better......

It's a shame because I always thought the old Chryslers were real cool looking motors.

Good engine but won't run like a Merc or Rude. Parts are available if you search for them and if it has the prestolite ignition it should run well. As long as you don't abuse it, keep the lower unit sealed and oiled, and put in a new impeller every couple of years, it should run forever.
A nice new paint job, a couple of decals, and you have something pretty to look at too!

Thanks for the info, why do say it wont run like Mercury? I don't want to waste money, this will be going on my 24ft pontoon. Thanks again for the help, here are a couple of pictures of what it looks like...if that matters.

You won't be wasting money. On your pontoon it will give good reliable service. It is old school design and just doesn't put out the power that a Merc will. Besides, most Mercs are actually rated for less than they deliver. So, on a planing hull a 115 Merc will outrun the Chrysler.

As far as reliability though, as I said, it should last forever.

Thanks for the help fellas, I went to go look the motor over yesterday......looks great on the inside. No rotting on any wires, but i lost my dang compression tester. It was given to me from an old friend years ago.....can you build one of these, or is it always best to buy one? Thanks

They are real cheap. Just pick one up at Harbor Freight or an auto parts store.

Just make sure you buy one that screws in.The hold and turn are not worth it.
Get a good one if you have the money.J
