I had water leaking out the mid section of the motor just above the lower unit. After removing lower unit to replace the water pump I noticed the water pump gasket had a blow out about 3/8" long. Thinking this was the culprit I replaced the pump and housing just as the service manual states. However after reassembling the motor, I put the earmuffs back on the water inlet and I have the same issue. I removed the thermostat cover and am getting no water to the top of the engine. Could the water tube that goes through the mid section be bad or however it attaches to the bottom of the engine have a hole in it?

The water pump gasket blowout makes me wonder if maybe you have a blockage somewhere in the tube, you can try dropping the LU again using a hose run water up the tube to see if you have flow to the motor.

Re: E70TLCEM Water leak

there is a grommet type gasket on top that the tube slips into....it could be disformed...or one other thing is you may have a blockage in the cooling system....did you ever have an Impellar blow apart in the housing prior...or the grommet is in the system

take the lower end off...and take the hose and induce water into the tube...see if you get water circulating....if not it is one of the problems I listed....or maybe something else and some one will direct you....

Flush and backflush the cooling water circuit with either water or compressed air to ensure she is not restricted. Check the water line when the lu is down to ensure it is not corroded. Ensure that the water line is not pinched into the grommet on top of the impeller housing. Clean out the intake area.

The water leak you are talking about isn't the drain for the exhaust housing is it?

When I had the L U off I did stick a garden hose on the tube and couldn't get any water past the Thermostat without removing it. Thermostat and spring looked fine but garden hose pressure wouldn't push it open though?? This was all without the engine running. Maybe not enough water pressure? 60 psi water pressure here in town though. Should earmuffs easily push water through the engine and out the pee tube without engine running?

Not sure where the drain for the exhaust housing is located? Water is coming out of a little weep hole on back of engine and just above that around where the rubber shock gromet mounts to the mid section
