Don't believe the E-Tec hype, much overrated, and plenty of problems.

I don't bother with the hype of any motors.I do believe BRP has done an amazing job saving Evinrude , all across the board, dealers, product, service warrantee. And now they are bringing out the 25 and 30.I was pretty sure we had seen the last at worst or the introduction of a bunch of 4 stroke clones at best.

Friend of mine has a 150hp e-tec and loves it. Sure beats the old Force 125hp he used to have !!!!!

Remains to be seen if the 25 and 30 will be lighter than 4 strokes ...

I've seen this before.
It was fun to watch but I thought the test was apples and oranges.

Well, it is apples and oranges but isn't that the choice many are trying to make? 2 stroke/four stroke?

I'd like to see it matched up against the opti. There's your apples to apples.

Could someone make those arrangements, please. Let me know when you've done so.

I love the E-TEC Challenges. My favorite part is the drag race where they run a 225 HO against the competition and smoke them, though they somehow fail to mention they?re actually competing with a 240 HP engine badged as a 225.

I think that is a urban legend or a bunch of hooey. And that is why I don't even look at the challenges.Do you really think a company would risk their credibility. The only drag I saw was a very gradual etec win.And Since I saw the the etec sink the 4 stroke I haven't watched any challenges.

Re: E-tec demo - Fun to watch

For some reason Evinrude doesn?t publish a performance report for the standard 225 E-TEC on the boat in the video, a 2005 Ranger Z-20, but they do publish a report for the 225 HO on that hull and oddly enough one of the reports includes the other two boat/motor combinations seen in the Challenge video.

http://www.evinrude.com/NR/rdonlyres/504C87EA-2E8B-4BE1-B80B-AD1A175A8AB2/0/PE333.pdf

Look at the graphics on the engine in the video. It is not the standard 225

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b...M2rJsxZA9vPhY/cC/f=0/ps=50/r=0/rx=480/ry=320/

But it looks exactly like the 225 HO

http://im1.shutterfly.com/media/47b...M2rJsxZA9vPhY/cC/f=0/ps=50/r=0/rx=480/ry=320/

Looking at the ?225 Horsepower Comparison? chart in the Drag Race Challenge note the ?Evinrude V6 225 E-TEC? tops out at about 240 HP, yet the HP produced by the standard 2005 225 E-TEC submitted to the California Air Resources Board for testing produced 167.79 kW which calculates out to 225 HP

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/offroad/cert/eo/2005/sime/u-w-008-0082.pdf

while the 2005 225 HO produced 178.97 kW, or 239.99 HP

http://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/offroad/cert/eo/2005/sime/u-w-008-0083.pdf

Now watch the video. Near the beginning as the words ?Drag Race? fade out stop the video and advance frame by frame. You will make out exactly two frames in which the letters HO appear. The only admission that I can find that the engine run in the video is an HO

So not a spoken or printed word that indicates the engine is an HO, but I believe it is.
Now draw your own conclusions as to what engine is run in the ?Challenge? and to the credibility of the advertisers.

I watched the tug of war video several times and the Yamaha boat doesn't even look like it is in gear, the water behind it never moves, makes you wonder.

They are good engines and BRP has doen wonders bringing them back but an ad is an ad.

I'm sure the E-Tecs are great engines, but why didn't they try an Optimax in any of the 8 challenges? It's easy for any 2 stroke engine to outperform the four strokes in most of the tests. Obiously 2 strokes are lighter, have more torque, etc.

Because the principal competition to the E-tec is the 4 stroke, not the Opti. Not sure why they used a Yammi HPDI instead of a F225

Wonder why they use the F225 in the HP charts listed on the drag race page when they supposedly raced a HPDI :confused
