j60tletd with VRO. motor starts fine, but dies when engaged in forward at slow throttle. in addition, now it wants to die when restarted and running in neutral at idle. primer bulb is soft and when squeezed at idle, it kills the engine. this is a new omc bulb and new fuel line. new filter.

i checked compression. 127, 125, 127.
spark plugs are wet with oily look.

boat runs fine at WOT, pushes 6000 rpm when opened up. no misfires or anything noticeable. comes off plane and back to idle fine. pushing primer key in at plane lowers rpm for a second or two which i believe is normal.

when in gear at low throttle back to ramp and when loading boat on trailer, she keeps dying.

any help would be appreciated.

fuel pump? i can hear it clicking at a slow rate which i believe is normal according to my manual and what I've read on this site prior to posting.

carb rebuild? I have not done this. i've had the boat for going on 4 years.

carb or fuel delivery.

tashadaddy,

when you say fuel delivery, could that be the diaphram in the fuel pump possibly having a pin hole? i have the VRO so the fuel pump looks like a bear to get out and apart. i'm willing to do it, just want to be sure that a pin hole is possible and could be causing my fuel starvation symptoms.

when you squeeze the bulb it dies, as in flooding it. it sounds like a carb problem as the idle is too rich, or a float stuck open, or could be the primer is leaking, or the fuel pump as you said.

in you first post plug look wet and oily. still points to carbs flooding, it could be a pin hole in diaphram, as far a plugs go my catalog only goes to 1990 but it says 77's

Check your jets....
they may be eroded at the tips, or damaged.
Too much fuel at low speed is a common symptom

Best luck
